Sara Lubbers (She/Her)) is a Canadian Certified Counsellor Candidate with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. She has completed her course work and is currently working on her practicum hours for her full designation.
For the past seven years, I have been working with children and youth from all ages within the school district as a teacher and school counsellor. I recognize that emotion regulation is a crucial component in order for young people to have success in the domains of academics, decision-making, relationships, positive self-worth and self-esteem. I help youth/teens to find a strong sense of self in the midst of the pressure to fit in and do well academically.
When we do not learn the skills of emotional regulation at a young age, we can continue to experience difficulties into adulthood. If you are experiencing anxiety, self-harm, angry outbursts, extreme feelings of sadness, low stress tolerance, issues in relationships or using addictive substances to cope, it can be hard to know how to get unstuck. I will support you to build a toolbox for emotion regulation. You will gain the confidence of knowing that you can move into more problem solving and healthy coping strategies and have a more peaceful and connected experience of life.

Therapy modalities Dave uses in his counselling practice
I work with individuals (adults, youth and teens) and draw from various modalities that include cognitive behavioural therapy, dialectical behavioural therapy, solution focused therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy and logotherapy. I create a safe and non-judgemental space where clients can experience having their concerns and emotions validated. When clients are able to better understand their feelings, experiences and behaviour patterns, they are able to move forward in their lives from a more empowered place.
Personal qualities / strengths as a counsellor
When you choose to work with me, you are getting a warm, friendly and compassionate therapist. I am the type of person that people naturally open up to, even on airplanes and grocery store lineups! As a counsellor, I am very cognizant of the fact that pain and suffering is part of the human experience. However, I wholeheartedly believe that there is hope and healing to come out of the other side of this pain. If you are ready and willing to work through your stuck places, I am committed to providing a safe and supportive environment during your healing process. You are not alone.
