Patrice Moonie

Patrice Moonie is a Registered Clinical Counsellor (#24962) with a Master of Education in Counselling.

With over a decade of experience working in the social services field with youth, teens, adults, and families, I bring a compassionate and integrative approach grounded in person-centred and trauma-informed care. I strive to create a space where you feel safe, respected, and understood while navigating challenges such as anxiety, grief and loss, trauma, relationship difficulties, family dynamics, and questions related to identity and belonging.

As we work together and explore your experiences, I will help you make sense of your emotions, your history, and the patterns that may be shaping how you move through the world. When those patterns no longer serve you, change begins with recognizing them and understanding where they come from. From there, I offer practical tools that go beyond insight, helping you create meaningful, lasting change.

Our work will take place in a supportive, non-judgmental environment that honours your experiences while building on your existing strengths. Together, we can work toward greater confidence, self-understanding, healthier relationships, and a stronger sense of self.

Areas of counselling expertise

I support individuals, teens, couples, and families navigating a range of emotional, relational, and life challenges, including:

  • Emotional well-being: anxiety, chronic worry, overthinking, depression and low mood, difficulty regulating emotions, stress, and burnout
  • Relationships & family dynamics: relationship conflict, communication challenges, disconnection between partners, family conflict, boundaries, and repeating relationship patterns
  • Identity & belonging: feeling disconnected or unsure of where you belong, identity exploration, gender identity, and challenges with self-esteem
  • Life transitions: career changes, academic stress, changing relationships, and other major life transitions
  • Trauma, grief & loss: trauma and difficult life experiences, grief, loss, and adjusting to significant change
  • Coping & self-worth: self-worth, confidence, inner criticism, addictions, and coping behaviours that may no longer be serving you

Therapy approaches

My approach to counselling is integrative, trauma-informed, and person-centred. I believe therapy works best as a collaborative process. You bring your lived experience and an understanding of what matters most to you; I bring curiosity, support, therapeutic insight, and practical tools to help you move toward the changes you want to make.

My work is informed by:

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS)
  • Attachment-Informed Therapy
  • Narrative Therapy
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
  • Family Systems Therapy
  • Trauma-Informed Therapy
  • Person-Centred Therapy
  • Polyvagal Theory

Personal qualities / strengths as a counsellor

I have always been drawn to helping others. As a counsellor, I bring a calm and grounded presence and strive to create a safe, respectful, and non-judgmental space where healing and growth can take place.

I consider it a privilege when someone invites me to walk alongside them through an important part of their life. My approach is collaborative and individualized—there is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy.

Together, we can explore how your history and experiences have shaped the way you see yourself, relate to others, and respond to the world around you. I often work through an attachment lens, particularly when helping clients understand relationship patterns, strengthen connection, and develop healthier ways of relating to themselves and others.

I work with individuals, couples, families, and teens who are interested in understanding themselves more deeply and creating meaningful change in their lives.

My approach may resonate with you, if you:

  • Want to better understand yourself and where certain patterns come from
  • Feel burned out, overwhelmed, or stuck in difficult emotions
  • Are navigating relationship challenges or complicated family dynamics
  • Are exploring your identity or sense of belonging
  • Are looking for a counsellor with experience and understanding of neurodivergence
  • Want both greater self-understanding and practical tools to help you create change

You don’t need to have everything figured out before coming to therapy. We can begin with where you are and work together toward where you want to be.
